Survey: why is your organization not investing in Notes infrastructure or application development?

When I speak to Lotus Notes administrators about ReduceMail Pro, I often hear that their organization is not investing in Notes infrastructure or application development. That may mean their organization is happy to continue using Lotus Notes the way they have it, or it may mean their organization is planning to migrate away from Notes. There could actually be many reasons why an organization would stop investing in Notes, and I am interested in what those reasons are. I therefore pose a question to the Lotus Notes community: why is your organization not investing in Notes infrastructure or application development?

If your organization does plan on using Lotus Notes into the future, I think there is always reason to invest in infrastructure, particularly by acquiring solutions like ReduceMail Pro, which generate ROI. It seems that many companies have unwisely cut off Lotus Notes infrastructure investment and that this has been to the disappointment of many administrators whose work could benefit from mail management solutions. On the other hand, ignoring application development might make sense at the moment with IBM refusing to support a full Notes client for the iPad and other mobile devices. I’m nostalgic for the days when big consulting companies used to have tens of thousands of Lotus Notes applications, but those days seem to be fading.

I can only know so much as an IBM business partner. I want to know firsthand from the Lotus Notes professional community what is happening. Once again: why is your organization not investing in Notes infrastructure or application development?

Our impression from the community is that the Lotus Notes client is ending. They want us to transition to XPages. And if we're going to move to all web based applications, why stay with Lotus at all? There are many platforms for web apps today. And really how many XPage developers are there in the world? Less than 1000? Why should we risk going that route?

Yes, all of us see the tendency to reduce cost and sometimes full deny of investing in Notes infrastucture. Becouse of many things:

    1. Lotus is not a fringly to user

    2. Lotus is "hard" software and it has o lot of errors. It works slowly all time ( complains from users when they open mail database or add document in productive db)

    3. And most important. CIO and other cheffs look for MS outlook as theur mail client, cause it easy to use.

The list can be apped with other issues, but i quess you understand the main reasons.

I'm sad with situation, I like the lotus software, but most times people dont like to wait a minute while it opens.
